The Chinese Government seems afraid iOS devices capable of leaking state secrets and compromising the safety of the customer. Related to this, Apple CEO Tim Cook is alleged to have given permission for the Chinese authorities to conduct inspections on the iPhone and iPad products.
Inspection will allow China to look for backdoor access to avoid theft of important data, and will be conducted on the basis of the spot.
Between Tim Cook and and Lu Wei, director of Communications and Information Technology of China, actually never met in 2014, the two allegedly discussed the security of Apple devices including Apple Watch.
During this meeting, the CEO of Apple said that Apple products do not contain a backdoor that allows data to be collected by the government or third parties. Lu wants Apple to approve the security checks so that the state can be sure that Tim Cook told the truth.
Apple officials may feel that it has no choice but to surrender. The company opened five new Apple Stores in the country and will begin operations February 19 to coincide with the Chinese New Year, including one already Grand Opening yesterday. Apple also managed to double its smartphone market share in the country's bamboo curtain from 6% last year to 12%.
